Menelya

The Day of the Heavens

Days of the week

The fifth of the six days of the Elves' week, with a name taken from the Quenya for 'Day of the Heavens'. In Sindarin, the same day was known as Ormenel, and when it found its way into the calendar of the Shire-hobbits, this 'Heavens' Day' was translated directly into the Common Tongue: Hevenesdei. By the time of the War of the Ring, Hevenesdei had evolved into 'Hevensday', very roughly equivalent to modern Wednesday.
