Griffo Boffin

Husband to Daisy Baggins

The son of Gruffo Boffin, Griffo married Frodo Baggins' cousin Daisy. Griffo and Daisy had a son, Tosto, and the entire family were present at Bilbo's famous Birthday Party. As a descendant of Otto Boffin the Fat, Griffo was indirectly related to several well-known Hobbits, including Fredegar Bolger, Folco Boffin and, less directly, the Sackville-Baggins clan.

Notes

1

'Griffo' is a real name deriving from the Italian for 'gryphon', and several other members of the Boffin family seem to have names with Italian origins, so this source is at least possible for Griffo Boffin's name, too. On the other hand, Griffo followed several generations of Boffins with names patterned phonetically after one another (Griffo's father was Gruffo, and his grandfather was Uffo), so the name 'Griffo' may have no particular meaning beyond its similarity to earlier names in Griffo's lineage.
