The Seventh Gate said by some to have been added to the existing six gates of Gondolin by Maeglin, after Morgoth's victory in the Nirnaeth Arnoediad. According to legend, the gate was made of steel and seven storeys high, but inconsistencies between accounts mean that its existence cannot be considered certain.

Notes

1

These dates assume that the Gate was built immediately after the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, and was destroyed during the sack of Gondolin thirty-nine years later. These dates are based on circumstantial evidence, and it should be noted that they are speculative in nature. The Gate may have taken several years to complete, and it may conceivably have survived the Fall of Gondolin.
