Falco Chubb-Baggins

The first of the Chubb-Bagginses

A cousin of Bilbo Baggins, Falco was the son of Bilbo's uncle Bingo Baggins and Chica Chubb. He lived a long life, reaching the age of ninety-six, but not quite long enough to attend his cousin's Farewell Party, which was held two years after his death. He was survived by a daughter, Poppy, but when she married Filibert Bolger the short-lived Chubb-Baggins line came to an end.

Notes

1

The modern use of the name Falco comes from various source languages, and in all those languages it means 'falcon'. Possibly, then, Falco represents a translation of a quite different Hobbit-name with that meaning. Alternatively, it may have had no meaning at all, and simply followed the phonetic pattern common to members of the Baggins family (as with Bingo, Bilbo, Frodo, and so on) in which case there would be no connection to the meaning 'falcon'.
