Notes

1

The Elvish form Aran Einior appears only in notes reproduced in volume XII of The History of Middle-earth, and so its canonicity is open to question. Nonetheless, these notes are sufficiently detailed that there is little doubt about their applicability. According to this source, Aran Einior was the usual name for Manwë among Sindarin-speakers in Middle-earth, and held similar status to their use of the name Elbereth ('Queen of the Stars') for Manwë's spouse Varda.
