After the Sack of Nargothrond, Glaurung the Dragon gathered together its treasures and established himself within Finrod's halls. At first he had routed out the Orcs that had aided in Nargothrond's capture, but later he summoned them back and ruled his new citadel as a Dragon-King. He began to send out his Orcs in forays against the surrounding lands, and through his attacks on Brethil he discovered that the Black Sword - his old enemy Túrin - was dwelling there. That revelation was ultimately to bring about Túrin's death, but also Glaurung's own.
