Daystar

The Sun

A name for the Sun; this is a rare term, used especially of the time when it was newly risen. Until the first rising of the Moon, just days beforehand, the only lights that had been seen in the sky had been the night stars. When this new, brilliant light arose in the West (as it originally did), Melkor and his minions descended into the depths of Angband, and sent out a black cloud to hide themselves from the Daystar's light.
