Castle of the Sea

The flagship of Ar-Pharazôn

The great ship known as Alcarondas that carried the throne of King Ar-Pharazôn of Númenor. Described as having many masts and many oars, and manned by slaves, the Castle of the Sea was painted in gold and black. In it Ar-Pharazôn led his vast armada away from Númenor and into the West, intending to make war against the Valar. The ship carried him past Tol Eressëa and landed him on the shores of Aman beneath Taniquetil, but then a chasm opened in the Sea to the east, and the fleets of the Númenóreans - including the famous Castle of the Sea - were drawn into it and utterly destroyed.
