Bergil

The son of Beregond of the Guard

The son of Beregond of Gondor. A boy at the time of the War of the Ring, he accompanied Pippin Took when he first arrived in the city of Minas Tirith.

Notes

1

Bergil's name is not explained, but it appears to derive in part from his father's name Beregond, which apparently means 'valiant stone'. From that source comes Ber(e)-, 'valiant', while the ending -gil can usually be taken to mean 'star'.
