Marach was the leader of the Third House of the Edain, who led his people across the Blue Mountains into Beleriand. His son Malach went into the service of High King Fingolfin, spending fourteen years in Fingolfin's land of Hithlum. Malach was one of the first Men to learn the Elvish language, and later brought a great many of his people westwards to dwell in Hithlum. The Elves gave him a title in token of his service and devotion: Aradan, which signifies a high or noble Man.
