Encyclopedia of Arda: The Black

Title of various evil characters, including Ancalagon the dragon and Ulfang the Easterling.

Ancalagon	The greatest of all the flying Dragons, Ancalagon was loosed from Angband during the War of Wrath that brought the First Age to an end. After an immense aerial battle, he was defeated by Eärendil, and destroyed the mountains of Thangorodrim when he fell to the earth.
Ulfang	An Easterling who came into Beleriand late in the First Age. He feigned alliance with Caranthir's people, but was secretly in league with Morgoth . In the great battle known as the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, his three sons betrayed the Noldor , and helped turn the battle into a victory for Angband.
